Tinsukia journalists' body urges CM to appoint DIPRO in district

By The Assam Tribune

Doomdooma, Feb 20: Tinsukia District Journalists' Association (TDJA) has urged the Chief Minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal to appoint a full-fledged District Information and Public Relation Officer (DIPRO) for Tinsukia district. The Journalists' body submitted a memorandum in this regard to the Chief Minister during his visit to Tinsukia recently.

The memorandum signed by the TDJA president Dr. Rishi Das and assistant secretary Umesh Kumar Singh stated that it is an irony for the media fraternity of Tinsukia District that importance of DIPR has been relegated to the extent that since October 2018, the government did not appoint a full-fledged DIPRO and a magistrate had been running the affair as in-charge officer in addition to his normal duties.

The DIPRO, even if appointed, either had shown reluctance in posting or had sought transfer and this practice had been going on for the past decade. Though media persons had raised this vital issue in a number of occasions but it did not materialise.

TDJA on behalf of all media persons of the district requested the CM to address this chronic problem as early as possible keeping in view of the forthcoming assembly election.
