Tinsukia district Covid tally at 659

DOOMDOOMA, July 22 - As many as 133 fresh COVID-19 positive cases were found in Tinsukia district since Monday thereby shooting up the total number of positive cases to 659. Majority of these fresh cases detected in the district are through community transmission. The fresh positive cases include policemen from Tinsukia PS, CRPF and ITBP jawans, doctors, nurses, railway employees and a journalist, among others.

According to information received from DIPRO, Tinsukia out of 659 cases, 263 cases are active in the district. Moreover, out of the total number of positive cases, 164 are community-level cases out of which 101 cases are reported from Tinsukia town while 31 are from Makum area.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Tinsukia Pranabjit Kakoty and Additional Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr Romen Sonowal also tested positive for Covid-19 on Tuesday. The Deputy Commissioner and the Joint Director of Health Services, Tinsukia district were also found COVID-19 positive earlier.

Rahul Roy (27), a local scribe of a web portal from Talap has tested positive.

Meanwhile, panic stuck among the employees of Personal Product Factory (PPF) of Hindustan Unilever Ltd (HUL) situated here after a quality officer named Arnab Konwar (41) and an employee named Bikash Chetry (35) have tested COVID-19 positive on Monday. They have been shifted to LGB Civil Hospital, Tinsukia. They came into contact with many employees of the PPF. The employees have urged the company as well as the government administration to conduct swab tests of all the employees and officers as several of them have been suffering from fever, cold and cough. A few of them have already given their swab samples at LGB Civil Hospital, Tinsukia for test, but they are yet to get the results.
