Tinsukia Civil Hospital to be upgraded

TINSUKIA, July 24 � The Lokapriya Gopinath Bardoloi Civil Hospital here, which has been maintaining its subdivisional status since 1989 when Tinsukia became a district headquarters, will be upgraded into a 200-bed district hospital. Disclosing this to media persons at the Congress Bhawan here on Monday, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that the Government has formally sanctioned the required posts for the upgraded hospital as well as an amount of Rs 23 crore for construction of buildings for the hospital.

The minister also stated that the hospital would be equipped with tele-radiology through which CT scan and X-ray reports would be made available from Guwahati instantly and hard copies would be provided locally. With regard to the initial introduction of the 102 ambulance service in six districts namely, Tinsukia, Cachar, Dhubri, Kamrup (Rural), Sonitpur and Golaghat, Sarma pointed out that the facility has been launched to provide relief to patients referred from one hospital to another.

In respect of the education scenario, Sarma, who also holds the Education portfolio, stated that the lists of high schools, higher secondary schools and junior colleges to be provincialised would be available within 10 days. He also said that Deputy Commissioners have been given instructions to rationalise admission facilities in higher secondary and junior colleges in their respective districts as it has been found that some institutions are overcrowded, while others remain vacant.

With regard to extra classes in colleges, the minister announced that an amount of Rs 300 would be given for every extra class to teachers. Moreover, five zonal administrative offices will be set up for the smooth functioning of the Secondary Education Board of Assam (SEBA) and Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC). A college will be set up at Sadiya and there is also a plan to set up a campus of the Dibrugarh University in the district. The academic session of the Tezpur Medical College will start from August this year, Sarma added.
