DOOMDOOMA, Dec 14 - The Tinsukia district committee of All Assam Students� Union (AASU) organised a human chain at Kakopathar today to protest against the killing of Anteswar Mahanta and his son, Karun Mahanta, by ULFA(I) militants on December 11 at Dirak Hunjan Simaluguri village under the Bordumsa PS in Tinsukia district.
Several other ethnic student bodies also joined the protest programme. They urged the insurgent groups to stop killing innocent people and criticised the Government for its alleged failure to provide security to the indigenous people of the State. The agitators also demanded the Government to give adequate compensation to the family members of the victims.
Karun Mahanta was a former acting president of the Kakopothar regional committee of AASU. AASU general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi visited the residence of Anteswar and Karun Mahanta and expressed his sympathies to the bereaved family.
