Tinsukia AASU celebrates Rongali Bihu

TINSUKIA, April 15 - Like in previous years, the Tinsukia District Students� Union (TDSU) organised a central open Rongali Bihu celebration with a day-long programme at the Bimala Prasad Chaliha Nagar field here on Thursday.

On the occasion, the flag of the union was hoisted by the president, TDSU, Md Tarique and the flag was unfurled by Rajib Bordoloi, Principal, Tinsukia Women�s College. The swahid tarpan programme was initiated by Manoram Bora, general secretary, TDSU.

The highlight of the function was the student community taking blessings from elders, which was conducted by the Panitola Gayon Bayon dal. The other programmes included release of a souvenir, Goti by the vice-president, Tinsukia branch of Asam Sahitya Sabha, Dr Girish Handique and the general secretary, All Assam Students� Union (AASU), Lurin Jyoti Gogoi. The bihutoli was made colourful by the presentation of respective traditional Bihu dances and songs and cultural programmes of different communities namely, Moran, Mottock, Tai Ahom, Nepali etc. The function was attended by the AASU central committee�s vice-president, Pulak Chetia, besides other dignitaries. A cultural function was also held in the evening.

Goru Bihu celebrated: Along with the rest of the State, in Tinsukia too the most revered �Goru Bihu� was celebrated. In these community celebrations, people celebrated Bihu with Bihu dances and songs and made it very colourful. At Jyoti Nagar, Makum community Goru Bihu was celebrated at the Jyotinagar Rajohowa Bihutoli by the side of the Tingrai river in a traditional manner and with much fanfare.
