Time to oust BJP: Left parties appeal to all non-BJP forces

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Oct 10 - The Left parties in Assam have given a call to all the non-BJP parties, regional and national, to oust the BJP in the ensuing Assembly elections.

Leaders of four Left parties the Communist Party of India (CPI), the Communist Party of India (Marxist) or the CPI(M), the Communist Party of India (Marxist Leninist) Liberation and the Revolutionary Communist Party of India (RCPI) met at the CPI(M) state office here on Friday and discussed the changing political scenario in the State ahead of the coming elections, scheduled in April next year.

It is the need of the hour to form a united front against the BJP to save the future of Assam. We urge all the non-BJP forces including the newly formed regional political outfits to come together ahead of the ensuing state polls, the four parties stated in a joint statement here.

It's high time to put up a strong deterrence against the anti-people policies, undemocratic attitude and the policy of religious polarization. Assam is a land of people from different caste, communities, ethnicities and religions. From time immemorial, people here have followed the principle of peaceful co-existence. We should not let the divisive forces tear apart this social fabric for their vicious interest, said the statement.

The Left parties also underscored the need for an understanding among the political parties so that the anti-BJP votes in the State are not divided.
