BONGAIGAON, Oct 15 - Internal bickering among our leadership had distanced us from the people of the state in the past many years and it is the time for all small and regional parties to remain united for the regional development and for the national interest, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) working president Keshab Mahanta said while addressing a gathering during the celebration of the 35th foundation day of the party at Gandhi Maidan at Abhayapuri town on Monday.
Party president Atul Bora sought the people�s cooperation to make the regional party strong.
Former Chief Minister and founder president of the party Prafulla Kumar Mahanta opposed the Citizenship Amendment Bill and said it will allow Hindu Bangladeshi people to come and settle in the State which will result in the indigenous people of the State losing their identity and culture.
Senior leader Nurul Hussain said they have not forgotten the history of the formation of their party and hence the party is still surviving.
The party will win all the three Assembly seats in Bongaigaon district in the 2021 Assembly polls, said Bongaigaon legislator Phani Bhushan Choudhury.
The party has registered over 16 lakh new members between September 14 and October 14.
Former MP Kumar Dipak Das, Ramendra Narayan Kalita, legislator Satyabrata Kalita, former Abhayapuri North legislator Bhupen Ray and Rabha Hasang Territorial Council Chief Executive Member Tangsewar Rabha also spoke in the open meeting.
