JORABAT, Dec 16 - Launching a crackdown on illegal timber trade, a team of Khanapara forest beat office led by the Beat Officer (BO) Prahlad Gayan, seized a vehicle carrying red pine logs at Khanapara area this evening. The vehicle bearing registration number AS 01DC 9047 was reportedly transporting logs illegally from Meghalaya that entered Assam through Jorabat.

As per sources, a large number of timber-laden vehicles come from the adjacent hill state, and enter Assam through Jorabat without proper documents, causing a huge loss of revenue to the state.

Beat officer Prahlad Gayan stated that this crackdown which his team had launched will be continued to put an end to the illegal timber trade that has been flourishing since a long time.
