PATACHARKUCHI, March 26 - The people of Bajali area have extended full cooperation to the ongoing lockdown imposed by the government as a precautionary measure against coronavirus. Barring a few incidents of violation of the lockdown in rural pockets, most of the citizens have supported the lockdown.
Chandan Rout, in-charge of the Pathsala police outpost, said that police is monitoring the situation round the clock and advised people not to break the law. He said police were compelled to punish a few lawbreakers.
He asked people to maintain social distance during shopping in grocery shops by drawing circles within one-metre distance, and advised all grocery shops to follow this procedure.
Dr Sangita Sarma, circle officer of Bajali revenue circle, said that the lockdown was peaceful in the area and maximum effort was being made to make people aware of it.
Earlier, Sarma held a meeting with the gaonburahs under the circle and asked them to stay alert so that if any outsider enters their villages, it could be reported immediately. She reiterated about the need for social distance in the grocery shops of Patacharkuchi town.
Meanwhile, people from various parts of the subdivision have blocked the entrance roads to their villages by putting up bamboo posts and displaying signboards saying outsiders are not allowed to enter. People have also demanded a fixed time for opening and closing of grocery shops in the district.
Chandan Goswami, officer in-charge of Patacharkuchi Police Station, said that considering the emergency, police patrolling is being done round the clock even though limited staff was available.
SDO (C) Nayan Jyoti Bhagabati said that sanitizing was being done by the administration with the help of the fire service in Pathsala town like in other parts of Barpeta district.
