GUWAHATI, Aug 7 � Intensified operations have been launched by the City Police in neighbouring areas of Guwahati in view of the ensuing Independence Day celebrations, especially in places like Goalpara, Ribhoi, Mangaldai and Baksa.
Vigil has been stepped up in and around all areas connecting the city by road, rail or waterways, besides other locations in the capital city.
The City Police is also coordinating with Rangiya and Morigaon police to thwart any possible attack, Senior Superintendent of Police (City) AP Tiwari told this reporter.
Tiwari informed that the operation unit of the City Police has already launched operations and all the possible hideouts are being searched on a regular basis.
�The information collection system has also been geared up in view of the I-Day celebrations,� Tiwari said.
�As far as security in and around the Khanapara playground is concerned, the area has been kept under surveillance and monitoring is being done on a continuous basis. Close circuit television cameras have been installed at strategic locations and as many as seven watch towers have been set up there,� he said.
The SSP also informed that the high-rise buildings and the vulnerable locations in and around the venue have also been kept under surveillance by security forces.
The City Police has also already held meeting with various Nagarik committees.
