Tight security for Durga Puja

By Correspondent

SILCHAR, Oct 1 In a bid to ensure safe and peaceful celebration of Durga Puja, the Cachar Police have beefed up security arrangements here.

In this regard, a meeting of top police officials was held on Monday to discuss security measures. According to police sources, the Silchar town has been divided into various sectors and sub-sectors with additional companies of the CRPF and the AP Bn deployed at every sector.

Six mobile teams and riding squads will patrol the town in nine teams during the puja days. Further, temporary police posts will be set up in some important locations of the town. Also, a bomb disposal squad and firefighters will be on duty to avert any untoward incident.

The police top brass will monitor the security arrangements during the festival. Additional Superintendent of Police (headquarters) Rajvir Singh said that the police are ready to tackle any untoward incident. Considering the blasts in the Lakhipur subdivision earlier this year, special security arrangements have been made and paramilitary forces have been stationed, he added.

Meanwhile, an appeal has been made by the police that no one should touch any unknown object found on the streets or elsewhere. The public must immediately inform the nearby police post if such an object is spotted.
