BISWANATH CHARIALI, Aug 5 - A thunderstorm accompanied by heavy rain lashed Biswanath Chariali town and its adjoining areas in Biswanath district on Wednesday at around 2-10 am.
A good number of public residences and PHE schemes were damaged, while trees were either broken or uprooted. A number of cattle were also injured. Several places in the town, including Lehugaon and Geruabari were badly affected. Power supply was disrupted at various places throughout the following day.
Sit-in demo: The Biswanath, Behali, Chatiya and Baghmara units of AAGSU staged a 3-hour sit-in demonstration on Thursday in front of Binapani Natya Mandir here demanding inclusion of Nepali MIL in the TET examination conducted by the Government of Assam, besides introduction of Nepali MIL in the courses run by IDOL under Gauhati University.
Further, the protesters also demanded declaration of recurrent floods and erosion in Assam as a national problem and to put a halt to the killing of innocent animals in the Sixth Extension of the world-famous Kaziranga National Park.
