KOKRAJHAR, June 14 - Three wood smugglers were nabbed and a huge quantity of illegal timber seized from them on Sunday night by the Kokrajhar police, informed Shyamal Prasad Saikia and Sreejit T, SP and Additional SP of Kokrajhar.
Addressing mediapersons on Monday at the Kokrajhar SP�s office, both the SP and the additional SP said that on Sunday night the Kokrajhar Police had launched a large-scale operation in Bishmuri, Serfanguri, Karigaon and Patgaon areas against illegal tree felling and timber smuggling.
During the operation, 21 sal tree logs, a large number of mature logs and two vehicles were seized, they said.
Shahidul Islam, Nazrul Ali and Babul Ali were arrested in this connection, they said.
Meanwhile, a high-level meeting on eviction of illegal encroachers from forest areas in Kokrajhar district was also held on Monday at the DC�s conference hall. The meeting was chaired by Madhab Prasad Sharma, DC of Kokrajhar.
Shyamal Prasad Saikia, SP, Kokrajhar and all the DFOs of Kokrajhar and other senior police, forest and civil officials also attended the meeting.
