IMPHAL, May 27 � Three sitting MLAs of All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) have been disqualified after a series of hearings in the Manipur Assembly for violating the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution of India on Wednesday.
The three MLAs are Khumukcham Joykishan Singh, Thongam Biswajit Singh and Oinam Lukhoi Singh, according to an order of Speaker Th Lokeshwar.
The ruling for disqualification of the three MLAs was announced in connection with four cases filed against them for disqualification at the Speaker�s tribunal.
AITC Manipur unit had been in a legal battle for about a year after differences arose within its leadership.Out of seven AITC MLAs in the Manipur Assembly, five MLAs led by Joykishan had parted from the parent party and formed Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress in May last year while MLA Shyamkumar remained in the party.
The act of forming a new party was termed as violation of the 10th Schedule attracting disqualification, according to the ruling.
Meanwhile, the Speaker announced that the three seats held by the MLAs have now fallen vacant. He added that the final hearing of a similar disqualification case against another member of the House, will be held on June 6.
