Three social security schemes launched

SILCHAR, May 10 � In sync with the nationwide launch, three new social security schemes initiated by the Government of India for the benefit of the people was launched in Silchar as well. In a function organised by the United Bank of India, Cachar region, Union Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Sarbananda Sonowal launched the schemes � Pradhan Mantri Jivan Jyoti Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana and Atal Pension Yojana at the same time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi was launching the same schemes at Kolkata.

The big-bang launching ceremony was held in 115 locations simultaneously across the country. In Assam, the schemes were launched in Guwahati and Silchar. A total of 101 banks including regional rural banks and cooperative banks are going to sell these insurance products to their customers. Addressing the gathering after the launch, Sonowal said that the new schemes are targeted especially for the unorganised sector and economically weaker population but others can also enroll themselves as well. More than 14 crore accounts have been opened in the country so far under the Jan-Dhan Yojna for the purpose of strengthening the nation�s economy, he said. This has resulted in curbing the national revenue leakage in the distribution system to a great extent, Sonowal maintained. Local MP Susmita Dev said that it is a great beginning for the people of Barak Valley since they can open their account without any reference to the voter�s list of 1951 or 1971. She expressed her happiness saying that the electoral roll of 2014 general elections will be a sufficient evidence to avail these benefits. Rameshwar Teli, MP Dibrugarh, Silchar MLA Dilip Kumar Paul, former Silchar MP Kabindra Purakaystha, Cachar Deputy Commissioner GM Hazarika, DGM Cachar region of United Bank of India Vittesh Kumar and other senior officials of UBI and LICI attended the launching of the schemes.
