Three kept in SMCH isolation ward; 52 quarantined in Cachar

SILCHAR, March 22 - As a preventive step to contain the spread of Covid-19 virus, three persons have been kept at the designated isolation ward at the Silchar Medical College and Hospital, sources said.

According to Suman Choudhury, District Media Expert, NHM, three persons aged 21, 30 and 69 years respectively have been kept in the isolation ward and 52 persons have been quarantined so far. Of the total number, 49 persons have been kept on home quarantine,while three persons have been quarantined at the National Institute of Technology, Silchar, he informed.

To contain spread of Covid-19, Deputy Commissioner Barnali Sarma has clamped Section 34 of the Disaster Management Act,2005 in the entire district today. As per the order, all business establishments, except essential commodities throughout the district, will remain closed on March 23 and 24 from 6 am to 9 pm.

Further, all the malls, including Silchar Municipal Board-run Goldighi Shopping Mall shall be shut down from March 23 till further notice. Also, all weekly fish and meat markets and business establishments too shall remain closed untill further notice.

Non-compliance with the prohibitory order under Section 51 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005 will be strictly dealt with, the order stated.
