Three hurt in Behali firing

TEZPUR, July 5 � Three persons, including a village headman and a woman, were seriously injured in an attack by suspected miscreants from neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh in Sonitpur district today, police said, reports PTI.

Armed miscreants entered the residence of the village headman of Naharjan near Behali Reserve Forest early this morning and opened indiscriminate fire, injuring three, including the headman Lala Orang, his son Himant Orang and a woman Baha Chare. The injured have been admitted to the Guwahati Medical College Hospital.

Senior officials of the district administration, police and forest officials rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation.

Sonitpur SP Sanjukta Parashar said the situation was under control.
