NAGAON, July 23 - Three children and a woman died when they drowned in Kolong river at Sialmari village on the outskirts of Nagaon town. According to information available here, a woman Afruza Begum (28) was washing clothes in Kolong river on January 19 morning. At that time, five children were playing on the bank of the river and accidentally they drowned in Kolong.
Afruza jumped into the river to rescue the ill-fated children but unfortunately three of them namely, Julfa Begum (8), Nasrin Begum (10) and Afsana Begum (8) and Afruza were washed away by the waters of Kolong river.
Local people tried to rescue them but they failed in their attempt. Later, a SDRF team arrived at the scene and were able to recover the bodies of Afruza and one child Nasrin.
