By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Oct 14 - Four days after the sensational murder of a lady officer of the State Bank of India (SBI), police last night arrested three persons, including Sunil Kumar Mishra (59), an employee of the Dadara branch of the SBI.

Junu Sarma, a service manager of the Dadara branch of the SBI, was shot dead by unidentified assailants near Agyathuri on Tuesday evening when she was on her way back home here from office.

A case (No. 802/18) was registered with Hajo police station under Section 302 of the IPC read with 25(A)/27 of the Arms Act.

The two other arrested are Putul Ali (24), a recovery agent of the SBI, and Pranab Kalita (43), the driver of the personal car the deceased.

Sunil Kumar Mishra (59) is the field officer of the Dadara branch of the SBI and was responsible for field verification and recommending loans.

Superintendent of Police of Kamrup Partha Sarathi Mahanta told The Assam Tribune that the three accused were arrested from various locations and they are being questioned.

Mahanta, while refusing to share the details in the interest of the ongoing investigation, said the arrests were made after preliminary investigation indicated towards the trios involvement in the case.

Meanwhile, sources informed that the investigators have found gross irregularities in the functioning of the Dadara branch of the bank and there are strong chances of the murder plan being executed to cover up such anomalies.

It is now suspected that the driver of the bank official was hand in glove with the perpetrators of the crime and might have tipped off about Junu Sarmas movement.

More arrests could follow, sources asserted.

After being produced before a local court, the accused were remanded to police custody.
