Three abducted in Dhalai district

AGARTALA, Dec 7 - Three persons, including the supervisor of a construction company were kidnapped at gunpoint from a remote area of Dhalai district today, sparking panic among the local villagers.

The abduction came when the security forces were struggling to trace Litan Nath, a shopkeeper of Damcherra area of North Tripura district.

Police said Subhash Bhowmik, a supervisor of road work along with Subal Debnath and Banapati Tripura was on the way to reach Maldapara, around 26 km from Ambassa, headquarters of Dhalai district. Around 10 am, a group of armed militants detained the trio and kidnapped them at gunpoint. The militants retreated to a nearby jungle.

As the report reached district headquarters, a strong contingent of police rushed to the spot and launched a massive combing operation to rescue the kidnapped persons. Senior police officers are stationed at Ganganagar Police Station and monitoring the search operation.

The abduction of three persons from Maldapara triggered panic among the villagers as Damcherra area is still tense over the abduction of one shopkeeper. Meanwhile, intelligence inputs based on mobile tracking indicate that the kidnappers have taken Litan Nath to Rampuruhut area of Assam�s Hailakandi district. The police authority of North Tripura district has already established contact with Assam and Mizoram Police as the place Damcherra is located near the Assam-Mizoram border.
