Threat of CAB not yet over: Bhubaneswar

By ANN Service

MIRZA, April 3 - The Congress candidate for Mangaldoi Lok Sabha constituency Bhubaneswar Kalita has said that the threat of passage of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 is not yet over as the Bill might be tabled again in the Parliament if the BJP is voted to power and called upon the voters of Mangaldoi Lok Sabha constituency to cast their votes in favour of Congress candidate in order to prevent passing of the CAB at any cost, and thereby, protect the identity, language, heritage, art and culture of Assam.

Addressing an election rally at Dimu and Kottakhat in Rangiya LAC of Kamrup district on April 1, Kalita said that BJP party has vowed to bring the CAB again if it is voted to power and added that the CAB would violate the clauses of the historic Assam Accord and distort the identity, language and heritage of Assam. It will also incite violence in Assam.

Launching a frontal attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Kalita said that the Indian Prime Minister has travelled 80 to 90 countries seeking investments in India but he has miserably failed to bring in foreign investment into India.

Kalita also criticized the employment policies of the BJP-led Central government. Prime Minister had assured the people of India to provide two crore jobs. Instead 72,000 jobs are being lost per day as per the report of National Sample Survey Organisation ( NSS ), he said.

Kalita threw light on several anti-Assam policies of the Narendra Modi-led Central government and said that the Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre had granted special category status to Assam and had given crores of rupees of funds to Assam for its speedy development. But the BJP Government has snatched away the special category status, thereby deceiving the people of Assam. He said that if Congress is voted to power again, then the special category status for Assam would be restored.

He assured the people of Mangaldoi HPC to implement several Central projects in Mangaldoi if voted to power. We will upgrade Baihata Chariali-Mangaldoi national highway into a four-lane highway and extend the railway line from Guwahati to Mangaldoi in a bid to boost surface communication facilities in Mangaldoi HPC, he said and added that the two MPs Narayan Chandra Barkataky and Ramen Deka of the BJP had failed to bring in a single Central project to Mangaldoi HPC.

He said that the Congress party will work for the benefit of poor farmers, weavers and pump in more funds for the State.
