Thousands visit Barpeta Satra

BARPETA, Sept 15 - Thousands of people visited the Barpeta satra today on the occasion of the death anniversary of Srimanta Sankardeva, which also is observed as the Kirtan Mahotsava with an extensive programme. Besides the disciples and followers of Srimanta Sankardeva and Madhabdeva several other people also gathered at the Satra since morning to witness the rituals.

Kirtan Mahotsava is being celebrated at the Barpeta Satra with a week-long programme. Recitation from the scriptures by Naam Kirtaniya, Ghosha Kirtaniya, Byas Kirtaniya and Gayan Bayan since September 9 has been spreading a message of spirituality in the Satra town.

After prayers and bhatima this morning, bhojan byabahar was performed at the Satra. Ghosha Kirtan and Byas Kirtan in the afternoon enchanted the disciples who gathered in large numbers. Kar Bhar was offered by the disciples of Brindaban Haati in the afternoon.

Kirtan was performed in Ganakkuchi, Sundaridia, Baradi, Patbaushi, Gomura, Karakuchi, Amrikhowa, Kamarpara and all the sakha satras of Barpeta Satra with full Sattriya rituals.

Our Nagaon correspondent adds: Tithi of Srimanta Sankardeva was also observed in Nagaon like other parts of the State. Thousands of people from different parts of the State visited Bordua Satra, the birth place of the saint.

Moreover, devotees visited various naamghars of the district and took part in the naam prasanga.

The tithi was also observed in different educational institutions of the district.
