ROMESH MOHAN KULI LOTTA, March 20 � Thousands of people from all communities of the Lakhipathar area gathered at the 34th general session of Mising Bane Kebang, the oldest organisation of the Misings today, at the Romesh Mohan Kuli Lotta (field), Lakhipathar (Moridhal).
More than 20 gates of AASU, TMPK, MMK, NSUI, Tiwa Students Union, Donyi Polo, Mohila Parishad along with the main gate, open session stage and 200 shops including traditional food items, traditional dresses, exhibition, SHG mela and Murong Okum attracted the visitors and delegates though the poor road communication of the area gave a harrowing time to all and sundry.
On the second day of the Kebang today, the flag of the general session was hoisted by Banduram Pawegam, president, Mising Bane Kebang, which was followed by smriti tarpan by Mohan Doley, ex-vice president of the Kebang.
The souvenir of general session was released by Kamal Gogoi, Principal of Moridhal College. A seminar on �Position of State Government on Mising Autonomous Council and responsibilities of the Misings� was conducted by Usharani Kumbang, general secretary of TMMK, where Ranoj Pegu, president of Mising Mimag Kebang and Lakhinath Pegu, lecturer of Lakhimpur College attended as resource persons.
The programme of the general session began with the central executive meet yesterday, which was followed by delegate registration, delegate camp inauguration, delegate meet inauguration. The delegate camp was opened by Horinath Taye, reception committee president and the delegate meet was inaugurated by Khageswar Pegu, vice-president of Mising Agom Kebang. In the delegate camp, around 1500 delegates from different parts of Assam and Arunachal registered.
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi will attend as the chief guest in the open session of the Kebang tomorrow.
PM for long-term project
Guwahati, March 20 � Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has expressed hope that Assam would soon come forward with a long-term rhino conservation project to protect the animal, reports PTI.
Chairing the fifth National Board of Wildlife (NBWL) meeting at New Delhi on Thursday, he expressed concern over more and more species being listed in endangered species list.
He called upon the state governments to strengthen their structure to enhance wildlife conservation and mooted the formation of a Conservation Foundation in each of the protected areas on the lines of Tiger Foundation in each Tiger Reserve, Assam�s prominent wildlife NGO �Aaranyak�s� secretary general and NBWL member Bibhab Talukdar, who attended the meeting, said here today.
Union Environment and Forest Minister Jairam Ramesh said the ministry was open to providing 50 per cent of the salary to newly recruited frontline staff in states for the next five years but state governments have to bear the remaining amount.
NBWL members suggested that Compensatory Afforestation funds be used to purchase lands to connect key protected areas keeping in view the landscape and also buying key corridors and also relocation of villages, Talukdar said.
