By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Aug 30 - Following the long tradition of Techniche, the seventh edition of the Guwahati Half Marathon was organised in the city today. The theme of this edition of the marathon was Unity run for peace.

Despite the inclement weather, around 4,000 participants took part in the event to show their support for propagating the message of peace for a better future of mankind.

The event started off with the Professionals Half Marathon of 21 km at the Sonaram High School ground, which was followed by the six-km Spirit Run for the general public. A special run, called the Courage Run, was also organized for the physically and mentally challenged.

The chief guest and brand ambassador Amit Kumar Saroha, an Arjuna Award recipient in 2013 and also a para-athletics coach for the Haryana Sports Department, appreciated all the participants for keeping up their spirits irrespective of the weather condition. He also exhorted the participants to aim higher and take a step forward at all times.

Amit, while addressing the crowd, said, Running together brings a lot of energy which I could feel today. Participating is more important than winning in huge events like these. Despite constraints, this was a morning full of action where people had come from different States of India.

All the runs ended at the Nehru Stadium. There was a painting competition, too, for the people who wanted to support the cause in their own different ways.

Prizes worth Rs 3 lakh were distributed to the top performers of all the events.

The event has kickstarted Techniche15.
