Thousands pay tributes to Tarun Gogoi in Lakhimpur

NORTH LAKHIMPUR, Dec 18 - People paid glowing tributes to late Tarun Gogoi, the three times Chief Minister of Assam, as his ashes reached Lakhimpur. People thronged to pay their tributes at the Tyagkshetra in North Lakhimpur today, where the ashes were kept as arranged by Lakhimpur District Congress Committee. The ashes in an urn reached North Lakhimpur today on a motorcade escorted by Gaurav Gogoi, Kaliabor MP and son of late Tarun Gogoi along with Congress leaders Rockybul Hussain, former Lakhimpur MP Ranee Narah, former Lakhimpur MLA Ghana Buragohain and DCC president Dr Joy Prakash Das. The ashes were carried in a procession led by Gayan-Bayan in a ceremonial way through the main roads of North Lakhimpur to Tyagkshetra where a public function was held.

Earlier the ashes of ex-Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi reached Narayanpur on Thursday where a similar function was held. The ashes were received by Bhupen Bora, two-time MLA of Bihpuria and all India general secretary of AICC. People in Narayanpur paid their tributes to Tarun Gogoi at Jyoti Sangam auditorium which was attended by Gaurav Gogoi. Former Bihpuria MLA and ex-minister, Kesharam Borah, former Lakhimpur MLA Ghana Buragohain and DCC president Dr Joy Prakash Das.

Speaking on the occasion, Gaurav Gogoi appealed to the people to imbibe the culture of services as shown by his late father. In his address, Bhupen Bora asked all to work together to finish the incomplete wishes and works of late Tarun Gogoi.
