Thousands participate in Madhupur Mahotsav

DHUBRI, Dec 28 - Thousands of pilgrims and enthusiasts from across the State and West Bengal participated in the two-day Madhupur Mahotsav, observed with fervour and solemnity on the premises of the historic Madhupur Satra situated at Coochbehar district of West Bengal.

The Mahotsav that aims to promote Satriya culture and tourism witnessed programmes based on Satriya culture and Vaisnavite religion since December 24. North Bengal Development Minister Rabindranath Ghosh attended the opening ceremony and announced that the Government of West Bengal would construct a guest house for the pilgrims at Madhupur Satra.

According to information, more than 1,000 artistes participated in the festival and performed Kirtan, Naam, Pal Naam, Biya Naam, Theo Naam, Bhartall Nitya, Holi Geet, Borgeet, Bhagawat Path, etc. A Bhagawat Sobhajatra was also taken out to mark the occasion.

Scholars and priests from all Barpeta Satra, Goreshwar Satrasal, Majuli and Ramrai Kuti Satra also participated in various programmes of the festival.

The Mahotsav was organised by the district administration of Dhubri in collaboration with Assam Tourism Development Corporation Ltd, Department of Cultural Affairs, Assam, and Madhupur Satra Committee.
