GUWAHATI, Nov 6 � Thousands of people across the State today mourned the death of their beloved music meastro Dr Bhupen Hazarika. Reports from our correspondents have still been pouring in.
Tezpur: Even after 24 hours of music legend Dr. Bhupen Hazarika�s death, people here alongwith various organizations including apex literary body Asam Sahitya Sabha, central committee, Ban Theatre family, AASU, AJYCP, Bengali Theatre Hall, Tezpur Municipality Board, Tezpur Development Authority, Tarun Assam Shangha, TDSA, Sonitpur Journalist Union, Sonitpur Press club, Madhya Tezpur Bihu Sanmilan and Jaimati Pothar Bihu Sanmilan are under grief .
The central executive of Asam Sahitya Sabha today held a commemoration programme at Tezpur Sahitya Sabha Bhawan attended by president Rongbong Terang alongwith other office-bearers. The central executive committee meeting which was scheduled to be held here today was cancelled showing respect to the departed soul of the cultural icon and the ex-president of the Sabha.
Sabha�s president Rongbong Terang, expressing his deep condolence on behalf of the Sabha, stated that Dr Hazarika was a multifaceted figure and an unparalleled cultural icon who had contributed in the field of literature and culture. His creations must be well-preserved in a bid to keep alive his legacy among the new generation.
Moreover, the president of the apex literary body appealed to the government to name the proposed cultural university of Assam in the name of Dr Bhupen Hazarika.
Nagaon: Nagaon has mourned the death of golden voice of the globe Dr Bhupen Hazarika. There were number of condolence function were arranged on November 6 by different organizations of Nagaon. A public condolence meeting was held near Nowgong College point this evening. Nagaon Zila Sahitya Sabha, Nagaon Kalamandir, Nowgong College teachers Council, Sangam, Nagaon Science Society, condoled the death of Dr Hazarika.
Sahityacharyya Mahim Bora, Minister Rockybul Hussain, MLA Dr Durlav Chamua, secretary of Asam Satra Mahasabha Jibeswar Goswami, president of Sur Sadhana Sangeet Vidyalaya and others expressed deep sorrow for demise of Dr Bhupen Hazarika.
North Lakhimpur: North Lakhimpur paid rich tribute to Dr Bhupen Hazarika, the maestro and cultural soul of modern Assam and the greatest Assamese after the 16th Century Vaishnavite saint Srimanta Sankardev and Roopkonwar Jyoti Prasad Aggarwala, today who had a unique bond with the people here in his long and illustrious career as a musician, singer, filmmaker, cultural activist and politician who had some of the most outstanding feats from this small town.
A condolence meeting was organized for that occasion at the Uttar Lakhimpur Shaitya Sabha Office where people of all walks of life paid floral tributes to the departed cultural icon and legendary Assamese. The meeting was convened by the Lakhimpur District Unit of Asom Sahitya Sabha along with the Uttar Lakhimpur Sahitya Sabha in association with Lions Club of Lakhimpur Prerona.
Jagiroad: Several organisations namely, Dr Bhupen Hazarika Sanskritik Gosthi, Morigaon district KMSS, Baghjap Raas Utsav Udjapan Samiti, Jagiroad Sahitya Sabha, Jagiroad Anchalik AASU, Jagiroad Anchalik AGP, Jhargaon Chambers of Commerce, Sur-Deol Sangeet Mahavidyalay, Jagiroad Satriya Sangeet Vidyalay, Jagi Bhakat Gaon unit of AASU, Jagi Bhakatgaon Sakha Sahitya Sabha, Silpi Kanakeswar Baruah Sangeet Vidyalay, Save the Basundhar, etc. have expressed their deep condolence at the sad death of iconic national singer and litterateur Dr Bhupen Hazarika on Saturday at the Mumbai-based Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital.
Biswanath Chariali: The death of music maestro Dr Bhupen Hazarika has widely been mourned at Biswanath Chariali, too. The news of his death was received with shock here yesterday.
Several organisations held �Shradhanjali� functions today. Biswanath Chariali Municipality Board held a function at Dr Bhupen Hazarika Kalakshetra and Shakti Udyan where MP, Tezpur, Joseph Toppo, MLA, Biswanath, Prabin Hazarika, municipality chairman Dilip Kr Baruah, SDO (C), Biswanath, Abhijit Baruah etc. too part.
It may be mentioned that this park was inaugurated by the legend himself in 2004. The board has also decided to set up a statue of the legend and an auditorium at a cost of Rs 3 crore and 58 lacs in the park. Biswanath Chariali AASU, Sahitya Sabha, senior citizens� forum, Lekhika Samaroh Samiti, Mahila Samiti, Bhojpuri Yuva Manch, etc. also held meetins to pay homage to Dr Hazarika.
Doomdooma: The demise of the musical icon of the country and �Asom Ratna� Dr Bhupen Hazarika has widely been mourned at Doomdooma. Several organisations viz. Doomdooma Press Club, Doomdooma Sakha Sahitya Sabha, Doomdooma Jatiya Gana Mancha, Doomdooma Asomiya Puja and Natya Mandir Samity, Doomdooma Namghar Samity, Ramdhenu Mahila Chora, Hoonlal HS School, Doomdooma Girls� High School, Doomdooma College, Doomdooma Jatiya Vidyalaya, Rupai High School, Rupai Jatiya Vidyalaya, Learners� High School, Rupai Jatiya Vidyalaya, Bahniman Sahitya Chakra, Rotary Club of Doomdooma, Doomdooma branch of Sadou Asom Lekhika Samaroh Samity, Doomdooma Regional Committees of AJYCP, AASU, AAMSU, ATASU, ATTSA, AASAA and many other organisations have mourned Dr Hazarika�s demise.
Silchar: The news of the death of Dr Bhupen Hazarika, the music maestro and cultural soul of modern Assam, received with shock here yesterday. Dr Hazarika had a unique bond with inspired generations of people across the globe.
Prof Topodhir Bhatacharjee, VC, Silchar University said that iconic singer-composer promoted the cultural heritage of Assam through his films and music. He was a versatile singer who spread the message of amity, equality and universal brotherhood. The void that Dr hazarika�s passing away has caused will never be filled. Dr Hazarika will remain very alive in our memories and admiration.
Nalbari: Rich tributes were paid to legendary artiste Dr Bhupen Hazarika at a �Shradhanjali� programme held at the premises of Nalbari Anchalik unit of AASU. Renowned artiste Jiban Silpi Adya Sarma offered garland on the portrait of late Bhupen Hazarika who was close to him. Various organisations of Nalbari town including Nalbari Jila Silpi Santha, Nalbari Natya Mandir Samiti, Nalbari Jila Chatra Santha, Jila Sambadik Santha, Nalbari District High School Teachers Association, Nalbari Zila Karmachari Parishad paid last respect to the artiste. The leading citizen of the town also paid tributes to Dr Hazarika.
