DIPHU, Dec 28 - The statue of Thong Nokbe, the legendary Karbi hero who fought against feudal domination against the Karbi community, was unveiled by local MLA Dr Mansing Rongpi at Hawaipur, West Karbi Anglong on Monday. The statue has been installed at an estimated cost of Rs 10 lakh given by the local MLA.
The unveiling ceremony was attended by local leader Rensing Ronghang, Principal of Kopili College Guru Prasad Upadhyay, Assistant Professor Hem Chandra Timung and other dignitaries.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Rongpi said that Thong Nokbe lived during the medieval period and fought against Khasi feudal dominance and brought self esteem and liberty for his community.
