Theta Gosain Than to be developed: Barman

NALBARI, Aug 5 � Caretaker Chief Minister Dr Bhumidhar Barman has laid stress on the development of historic Thetha Gosain Than of Dokoha village under Barbhang revenue circle in Nalbari district as a spot of tourists attraction.

Laying the foundation stone of a sabhaghar on Sunday, Dr Barman said that the State government has taken various steps for the all-round development of historical and religious sites. He said that as the Thetha Gosain Than is surrounded by Barali beel, Baralia river and the Pagladia river, its scenic beauty attracts everyone. The senior minister further admitted that there are no places of recreation for children among the concrete and machinery in the city. �The senior citizens have responsibility to prepare such places for our coming generation,� Dr Barman added.

This historic places is situated about 35 kilometres away from Guwahati.

The foundation laying ceremony conducted by Kanak Sarma was addressed by Swapna Bezbaruah, member, Barbhag Zilla Parishad. In the meeting local panchayat president Pratima Begum and Anchalik panchayat member Tulsi Das extended Rs 1 lakh for the than.

Memorial lecture: Asam Sahitya Sabha chief Rong Bong Terang has said that the Karbi folk culture and literature has immensely benefited due to influence of the culture of the people from outside. It has given a new taste to the culture and literature of this hill tribe.

Terang said this while delivering the 2nd Dr Kailash Sarma memorial lecture organised by Sankardev Academi, Nalbari on Tuesday. He further said that epics Ramayana and Mahabharata also influenced Karbi literature, even though the influence of Mahabharata is quite negligible.

The programme was conducted by Dr Ram Prasad Bhatta, principal of Sankardev Academi. The meeting was addressed among others by Dr Anjan Jyoti Chaudhuri and Radha Bora.

Earlier, Renuka Sarma offered garlands on the portrait of her husband late Dr Kaliash Sarma. Two books one Chit Pakhila Chit Pakhila written by Binoy Kumar Mazumdar and The Cursed Island written by Rajashree Sarma were also released at the function.
