Theft in Manipur school during lockdown

IMPHAL, April 8 - Unidentified miscreants broke into a government school in Imphal West district and stole food items and goods meant for midday meals like rice, cooking gas cylinders, utensils, etc. They also ransacked the laboratory and the teachers� common room of Takyel Khongbal High School under the Lamphel Police Station, reports available here said.

The theft came to light today after some members of the Democratic Students� Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) visited the school. DESAM members found the teachers� common room and the laboratory open, and ransacking of furniture and materials in the rooms. Laboratory equipment were also found missing, the reports added. The kitchen for the midday meal scheme was also looted.

A DESAM member alleged that the theft and the ransacking took place on April 5 as the miscreants took advantage of the absence of the school caretaker owing to the curfew imposed by the State Government.
