Theft cases rising in Panjabari area

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, March 17 Theft during daytime and evening hours is giving a harrowing time to the residents of several localities of greater Panjabari area for the last few weeks.

Several reports of lifting of mobile handsets have been followed by lifting of cooking gas (LPG) cylinders from several houses in daytime even in the presence of the inmates of the residences.

The Panjabari area has, of late, become a big centre for people of doubtful nationality. Vast open plots of unoccupied land have been made open by their owners for those outsiders by renting thatched houses to them. At a small plot of land a few such houses accommodate on an average more than 20 families, a resident said, adding that there could be a connection between the spurt in those people and the growing cases of theft.

Although the local residents have made arrangements for night patrolling, what is shocking is that the criminals make their operations in broad daylight.
