GUWAHATI, Oct 17 - Some unidentified miscreants broke into a housing quarter in the teachers� colony on Gauhati University campus.
The theft took place in the house of Dr Debashis Saikia, Assistant Professor of the university. The thieves decamped with gold jewellery worth lakhs of rupees.
In the police complaint, Dr Saikia said the theft took place after he left the quarter to attend a medical emergency related to his wife at a private hospital on Wednesday.
�When I entered my house yesterday, I found that the back door was broken. The locks of the store were also found broken. A gold necklace, two gold chains, three pairs of gold earrings, a diamond ring, a pair of gold bracelet and three watches were found missing,� said Dr Saikia. A case has been registered and an investigation is on.
