TG Baruah karate meet today

GUWAHATI, March 25 - The United Karate-Do Association, Assam (UKAA) will host the TG Baruah Memorial 5th Youth and 7th U-21 State Karate Championship at the Tarun Ram Phookan Indoor Stadium in the RG Baruah Sports Complex here tomorrow.

The championship has been organised in memory of TG Baruah, former chairman of the Assam Tribune Group of Newspapers who was also the adviser of UKAA.

Informing about the championship in a press conference here today, the president of the organising committee Bhuban Lahkar said they are putting their best efforts in order to organise the championship in a be fitting manner as it is organised in memory of such a person who had been a true sports lover and was encouraging the sports organisers with all possible supports.

UKAA secretary Nagen Bongjang informed that altogether 320 players from districts like � Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Charaideo, Jorhat, Titabor, Nagaon, Morigaon, Cachar, Karbi Anglong, Kamrup, Darrang, Udalguri, Baksa, Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar and Guwahati will vie for titles in the Children (10 to 13 years), Youth (14-15 years), Junior (16-17 years) and U-21 year�s categories. Competitions will be conducted in 70 categories for both boys and girls. The best of the best players will be selected among the gold medallists in all the groups.

The State team for the National Sub Junior, Cadet, Junior and U-21 Championship, to be held in New Delhi from May 20 to 22 will be picked from this championship, informed Bongjang.

Other organising committee members � Sarmila Deka, Ram Bahadur Gurung, Balendra Mohan Chakravorty, Naren Hazarika among others were also present in the press conference.
