TG Baruah Cup karate meet from March 22

GUWAHATI, March 15 � The United Karate-Do Association, Assam (UKAA) will host the Tulsi Govinda Baruah Cup Youth, Veteran and U-21 State Karate-Do Championship at the Tarun Ram Phookan Indoor Stadium here on March 22 and 23.

Addressing a press conference here today, UKKA vice-president Naren Hazarika and general secretary Nagen Bongjang said that the championship will remain open for boys and girls from 10 to 13 years (children), 14 to 17 years (youth), U-21 and above 35 years (veterans).

Competitions will be held in 62 weight categories in kata and kumite. Altogether 270 players from 16 districts will fight for 62 gold medals and as many silver and bronze medals. Moreover, the champion of champions will be picked after conducting competitions among the gold medallists of various age and weight categories. Bongjang revealed that to keep fit, the coaches and the senior players need to take part in competitions and that was the reason the organisers are holding competitions for the veterans.

The organisers will also felicitate the medal winners of the 59th National School Games (karate), 26th National Karate Championship on March 22 during the inaugural function of the championship.
