Tezpur University adopts Amolapam village

GUWAHATI, Feb 27 � Tezpur University has adopted its neighbouring village Amolapam under a long-term developmental programme named �Tezpur University � Amolapam Village Development Initiative�.

The initiative was inaugurated by Vice Chancellor Prof. Mihir K Chaudhuri on February 24 in the presence of Tezpur MLA Rajen Borthakur and a host of prominent persons, including Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. Amarjyoti Choudhury, Sonitpur Deputy Commissioner LC Gogoi and inhabitants of the village, a press release issued by Rajeev K Doley, in-charge, Public Relations of Tezpur University stated.

In his inaugural speech, Prof. Chaudhuri emphasised the need of a joint effort by the university and the village people for strategic growth of the village for which necessary facilities would be extended by the university. Addressing the gathering, Rajen Borthakur appreciated the move by Tezpur University and appealed to the village people to extend all support and cooperation so that they can reap the benefits meaningfully.

Terming the adoption as a positive move for development, Prof. Amarjyoti Choudhury stressed upon the need of an inner urge to get educated among the youths, which is central to all forms of development. Speaking on the occasion, LC Gogoi termed the adoption as an exemplary move towards inclusive development and assured all possible support from the district administration.

On behalf of the village, senior citizens Mon Bahadur Subba and Ganesh Chetri wholeheartedly welcomed the development initiative and assured full support for the activities that would be initiated towards the development of the village.
