GUWAHATI, June 17 Playing a spirited game, visitors Tezpur United rallied to down host Guwahati Football Club 2-1 in their Assam State Premier League football championship.

On a slippery Nehru Stadium ground here today all the goals were scored in the first session.

Lanky Nigerian striker Ndu Buisi Opara gave the local team a bright start scoring in the very first minute of the match. But the Tezpur boys made a brilliant fight and fired two salvos before the break. Amit Tanti made it 1-1 in the 23rd minute while Babul Bhuyan netted the teams second goal in the 39th minute.

The visitors had to play with 10 men for the last 23 minutes as their leading frontliner overseas player Francis Onyeama was given the marching order for booking twice.

Opara struck early with a sharp header anticipating a floater sent by Lalrian Sanga (1-0). But Amit netted a gem of a goal as he equalised with a 30-yard drive (1-1). Guwahati FC custodian Santi Ranjan Das was not in proper position and Amit took full advantage of the opportunity.

Francis made a good move down the left flank and sent the ball to Rahul Saikia who immediately set the ball for Babul who made no mistake in firing home from a difficult angle (2-1).

However, the local team squandered a few scoring opportunities in the last quarter. The ball was roaming mostly in and around the Tezpur goal area but due bad luck and good goalkeeping by Arup Baruah the local team could not score.

At Gossaigaon, host Global FC, Gossaigaon edged past Udalguri FC 1-0. The all important goal was netted by Mithinga Brahma in the 84th minute.

Karbi Anglong Morning Star FC got the better of Trinayanjyoti FC, Chabua in their away match 2-1. Leading scorer Orak Essein fired both the salvos for the winning team in the 56th and 62nd minutes respectively while Chayaram Basumatary reduced the margin in the 82nd minute.
