Tezpur rally protests exclusion of names in NRC

TEZPUR, Sept 7 - In protest against the exclusion of names of genuine Indian citizens from the NRC and levelling many as �D� voters, different organisations, including All Assam Bengali Students� Federation, HYCP, Bajrang Dal, Bhojpuri Yuba Parishad and Gurkha Students� Union took out a protest rally at Thelamara area in Sonitpur district today.

The rally started from the Kalibari area and passed along NH-15 and culminated at the Thelamara Circle Office.

The protesters shouted slogans against the Government and the NRC authority before the officials of Thelamara Circle Office who were engaged for the NRC updation work.

Later, KK Sharma representing the district administration arrived at the venue and received a memorandum that was addressed to the Deputy Commissioner of Sonitpur.

The protesters also demanded immediate transfer of Circle Officer Dr Lakhyajyoti Das, alleging that he had intentionally curtailed names of many genuine Indian citizens from the NRC in different NSKs under his jurisdiction.
