Tezpur prepares for Rongali Bihu

TEZPUR, April 10 - Amid poll fever across the State, the people here are seen busy preparing for the celebration of Rongali Bihu.

The major Rongali Bihu committees in Tezpur town, namely, Uttar Tezpur Rongali Bihu Sanmilan, Madhya Tezpur Rongali Bihu Sanmilan, Luitpar Rongali Bihu Sanmilan, Dakshin-Pachim Rongali Bihu Sanmilan, Polo-field Rongali Bihu Sanmilan, Tezpur Central Rongali Bihu Sanmilan, Milanpur Rongali Bihu Sanmilan, among others, are all set to celebrate the most important festival of the Assamese society in a befitting manner.

However, organisers of the Uttar Tezpur Rongali Bihu Sanmilan that has already passed 56 years of its celebration informed that like in the past, this year too, the celebration is going to be held with a six-day programme at Tezpur Collegiate High School field.

Assistant cultural secretary of the celebration committee, Paban Das, said that the celebration will be in two phases. The first phase will start with unfurling of Bihu flag, felicitation to senior citizens and sport competitions among the children etc., on April 13.

On April 14, a cultural procession with the participation of various ethnic cultural troops, including Bihu, Bagrumba, Nepali dance, Jhumur etc., will be taken out on the occasion. In the second phase starting on May 4, several competitions like Dhool playing, �Mou Kwori� and �Bihu Kwori� will be held.

On May 5, a cultural function by the local artists will be the main event. On May 6, a State-level Bihu competition and special felicitation to the noted personalities, including farmer Kabul Sarma, will be the main programmes.

The last day programme includes �go as you like� competition, prize distribution and main function. Cultural programme by artist Tusar Arjun and comedy group �Behor-Bari Outpost� will be the major attractions.

Likewise, the Dakshin Pachim Tezpur Rongali Bihu Sanmilan has been celebrating Rongali Bihu at Chanmari here for last 50 years. This time, the celebration committee is preparing for eight-day event with various cultural programmes from April 14 to 21.

On the other hand, like in the past few years, the people of the greater Thelamara area are going to celebrate the Rongjali Bwisagw mela on Thelamara Bathow Asrom premises under the aegis of Thelamara Rangjali Bwisagw celebration committee on May 1.

Besides, the Thelamara Central Rongali Bihu Sanmilan is going to celebrate its 48th Rongali Bihu celebration at Thelamara Bapuji Bhawan complex with various cultural programmes.

Secretary of Misamari Anchalick Boro Sahitya Sabha, Hitesah Narjary, said that the Missamari Anchalick Rongjali Bwisagw Mela-cum-Indigenous cultural meet, organised by Missamari Harimw Afad, Misamari chapter of the ABSU and Boro Sahitya Sabha, will be held on April 30 and May 1.
