Tezpur municipal body assets rusting in peace

By CORRESPONDENT

TEZPUR, Dec 1 - People of this historic town have expressed concern over some assets, belonging to the Tezpur Municipality Board, lying neglected for the last six months due to the lackadaisical attitude of the civic authorities.

The Tezpur Municipality Board, one of the States oldest civic bodies, has received crores of funds along with other assistances under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. A few months back, under this mission, about 60 garbage-carrying tricycles and a few tippers were provided to the board by the NRL authority for keeping the historic town neat and clean.

However, it is a matter regret that instead of using these vehicles properly, they have been allowed to rot in the Hem Baruah Hall campus and the dairy farm campus near Jaimati Pathar, which have been requisitioned by the civic body.

When contacted, Bijit Kataki, an official of the TMB, who is related to the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, said that due to the lack of a sufficient number of tricycle-pullers, these vehicles are lying unused.

The garbage-carrying tricycles cost Rs 10,000 to Rs 12,000 each. If they remain neglected like this, they will soon become totally unfit for use, he added.

The conscious section here alleges that due to the apathetic attitude of the TMB authority, the cultural capital of the State, called a city of beauty, often wears a filthy look with garbage strewn at important spots.
