Tezpur mourns Suman�s death

TEZPUR, May 21 � The untimely demise of promising singer Suman Mahanta (25), who hailed from the Da-Parbatia area, in a tragic road mishap in Goalpara district this morning has saddened the entire cultural community as well as the local people here. Suman and ten others lost their lives in the accident.

Suman, a former student of the Darrang College, had won the Best Singer�s Award in 2006-07. Later, he studied at the SB Deora College, Guwahati, where he again became the best singer. Suman�s father, Harin Mahanta, is a retired employee of the State Agricultural Department.

Suman had performed in children�s plays. He had concerts at the historic Ban Theatre and various other grounds in the district. Noted singer Pankaj Bordoloi said, �Suman was a very polite and good singer.�

Different organisations, including the AASU, Sahitya Sabha, Natya Samaj, Natya Sanmilan, Sonitpur Press Club, Satok, etc., mourned the death of Suman and conveyed their condolences to the late singer�s bereaved family.
