Teok dacoity case: Over Rs 1.11 cr recovered

JORHAT, Oct 31 - In a major breakthrough into the Lakhibari dacoity case in Teok, Jorhat police today recovered more than Rs1.11 crore from the residential campus of one of the prime accused Prasanta Bhuyan of Soladhara area of the city.

�Yes, Jorhat police have recovered Rupees 1,11,33,000 (one crore eleven lakh thirty three thousand) from the campus,� said Eastern Range DIG Satyen Gogoi.

The miscreants had looted Rs 1.60 crore from the cash-carrying van of a public sector bank while the money was being carried for depositing in the ATMs on Thursday evening.

Police have already arrested five persons and recovered one .2mm pistol and a single barrel gun which were allegedly used by the miscreants during the dacoity.

Jorhat Superintendent of Police Amanjeet Kaur said that the vehicle used by the miscreants has been recovered and the accused Prasanta Bhuyan is yet to be nabbed.

Though the accused was working in an office of a State Health Department earlier, he was not allowed to continue his job there after an enquiry report mentioned his appointment as doubtful.
