Tension prevails along Assam-Nagaland border

By CORRESPONDENT

DERGAON, Feb 17 The Assam-Nagaland border area is tense once again following attempts made allegedly by Naga people to build houses inside Assams territory.

According to information, a group of people came to the areas under the B-sector of the Assam-Nagaland border area and threatened the Assamese people saying that they will build their houses in the area. The Naga people came to Rajapukhuri, Romanbasti, etc, in the morning on Monday and asked the Assamese villagers to vacate the land.

The villagers reported the matter to the SSB but the SSB personnel allegedly remained indifferent. But, after getting the information, the border magistrate asked a magistrate and the OC of the Uriumghat PS to look into the matter. Later, the Golaghat SP PP Singh also visited the spot and asked the Assamese villagers not to come out of the village. But even in the presence of the SP, the Naga people tried to show their power to take possession of the areas.

The situation is now under control, according to the OC of the Uriumghat PS, Dwipen Bey. Golaghat DC Nitin Khade and SP PP Singh are closely monitoring the situation.

It is pertinent to mention that in an attack by Naga miscreants on the Assamese people in August 2014, nine people had lost their lives. But due to the indifferent attitude of the State government, the situation has once again worsened in the border area.
