SILCHAR, May 10 � A tense situation prevailed in Silchar following the mysterious death of a 20-year-old, identified as Babul Goala, who was allegedly killed by one Animul Ali of Panchayat Road and two other persons. According to police, Babul was a mason working under contractor Animul.
Meanwhile, Babul�s sister Uma Goala, an eyewitness of the incident, said, �Around 4 pm on Friday, Jayanta, one of my brother�s co-workers, called him up, following which Babul went out with him. Jayanta took him to a building located in our locality where Animul with the help of two others tied Babul�s hands and feet and thrashed him.�
On the other hand, despite the best efforts of doctors, Babul succumbed on Saturday. After he was pronounced dead at Silchar Medical College Hospital here, mob fury led to a violent protest across the southern part of the town. The agitated people blocked the Rangirkhari point till late evening and demanded immediate arrest of the culprits.
The situation grew so tense that the officials from the district administration along with police and local ward commissioner had to rush to the spot to pacify the mob. However, the blockade was lifted after the district administration assured that the culprits will be arrested in three days� time.
