Tension over damage of temple at Hailakandi

HAILAKANDI, June 12 - Security forces were deployed in Singhala tea estate area of Hailakandi district today after tension mounted over the damage of a Siva temple by miscreants.

A police team led by Additional Superintendent of Police, Kulendranath Deka rushed to the spot today when a large number of local people blocked the road and started to protest. Police had to resort to mild lathicharge to disperse the agitated people. Sources said that at least 20 people received injuries due to the lathicharge. They have been brought to SK Roy Civil hospital here.

The incident of damage occured last night and it came into notice in the morning.

Hailakandi DC Megh Nidhi Dahal said, �A boy has been arrested so far. Local Hindu boys under the influence of alcohol were responsible and it is not a communal issue.�
