Tennis coaching at India Club begins

GUWAHATI, May 11 � India Club, a leading tennis centre of the State has started a six-day tennis coaching programme on its premises here today.

Billed as Pradip Kumar Dutta Memorial Tennis Coaching Programme, the camp is meant for junior players where ITF Level II coach and tutor Kawaljeet Singh will train 24 youngsters.

Speaking in the inaugural function of the coaching programme, Singh thanked the organisers for arranging such camps. He urged the India Club authority to appoint permanent coaches for the young players.

A major portion of expenditure for the camp has been sponsored by the family members of Pradip Kumar Dutta who was a member of the club. A noted tennis and cricket player of the State, Dutta had been closely associated with the India Club and played regularly till his last days of his life, said Diganta Thakur, joint secretary of the Club. Thakur also mentioned that every year such camps will be organised in the India Club.

Dr Anuradha Dutta, wife of late Pradip Dutta, said her husband used to inspire youngsters to take up games and sports and helped the needy sportspersons in developing their standards. She also thanked the officials of the India Club for organising such a camp where youngsters can learn a lot from a leading coach.

The inaugural function was presided over by club president Amal Dutta Lahkar.

Diganta Thakur, Ridhiman Dutta and Hiren Baruah will assist Kawaljeet Singh in the camp.
