Ten feted for distinctive work in various fields

GUWAHATI, Oct 21 - Ten persons drawn from different districts of Assam who have earned distinction in the fields of art, music, culture, literature and social service were felicitated by Anuprerona, a socio-cultural organisation, at a function held in the conference hall of the NEF College, Christianbasti here on Sunday.

Senior journalist DN Chakravartty presided over the function. Deepjyoti Saikia, general secretary, welcomed the guests and placed the record of activities of the organisation set up six years ago.

Dr Malini Goswami, Vice Chancellor of Assam Women�s University, Jorhat, who was the chief guest, was also felicitated for her role as an eminent teacher. She appreciated Anuprerona in giving social recognition to the distinguished persons in different categories. She added that social recognition and encouragement played a significant role in inspiring and fully flowering the latent genius of men and women in various fields.

Those who were felicitated were Jyoti Bhuyan, woman entrepreneur; Ranu Gohain, retired headmistress and educationist; Sattriya dance exponent Bhanu Deka; Kathak danseuse Moromi Medhi; musician Padmanabh Bordoloi; writer Ganga Prasad Hazarika; weaver Najitora Bori; handicraft designer Banajyotsna Dutta Islam and entrepreneur Surya Bordoloi.

Dr Kumud Sarma Shastri, director, Vedic Astrological Research Centre, who was the guest of honour, also spoke on the occasion.

Chakravartty in his speech dwelt on the activities of the organisation and said that over 50 persons, both men and women, drawn from diverse fields from all the northeastern states had been felicitated by Anuprerona in the past few years.

Syeda Hasina, a law student, recited Guru Vandana in both Sanskrit and Assamese.
