Teenager raped in hospital campus

By Correspondent

BONGAIGAON, June 21 - The police is continuing its effort to nab the accused who had allegedly raped a teenager on June 19 last in a staff quarter at the Bongaigaon Civil Hospital Campus.

The 16-year old victim was alone in her relatives quarter in the hospital campus when the miscreants had allegedly raped her after rendering her unconscious using some chemical in a handkerchief.

When her relative, who is a nurse of the hospital, returned from the town with her husband, they found the girl unconscious and main door open. After she regained consciousness, she spoke about the incident but could not identify the accused.

Her medical test was conducted in the hospital and her relative lodged an FIR at Bongaigaon Police Station at about 10-30 pm the same night. On that basis, the police has registered a case no.447/2017 under Section 4 of the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 and began a probe into the incident.

We are trying to nab the accused and looking into all possible angles linked with the incident, Bongaigaon SP, Hridayjit Barman said.

As per the victims statement, two persons had committed the crime and she will be able to identify one of them if they are produced before her.

Dr Hafiza Ahmed, a gynecologist, who conducted the medical test of the victim, said though we primarily suspected it as rape case but only the final report can confirm the allegation. The Superintendent in charge of the hospital, Dr O Chakravarty said, We need full security in our hospital campus otherwise our staff feels insecure to stay in these quarters.

There are 40 quarters in the hospital campus in which doctors, nurses and fourth-grade employees reside.
