Team effort behind win, says Gambhir

By STAFF reporter

GUWAHATI, Nov 28 After registering his first victory as skipper in the Airtel ODI series opener at Guwahati, Indias skipper Gautam Gambhir today said that the proceedings went as planned and attributed the victory to a team effort stating almost all the players chipped in with valuable contribution that resulted in the win.

However, he showered special praise on the centurion and man-of-the-match Virat Kohli, who hit his second successive ODI ton today.

Speaking during post-match interaction, the Delhi southpaw also expressed satisfaction with the way the turf behaved throughout the match.

The wicket was good and the game plan was to keep wickets in hand for an onslaught in the final stage. Virat played exceptionally well and the bowlers also had an impressive outing, Gambhir said.

Man-of-the-match Virat Kohli, when asked, said that though he is not a number-man, he would like to make the most of the purple patch he is going through.

It is always good to score a ton and I am enjoying the good form I am in, said Kohli, who today become the fastest Indian batsman to reach the 2,000-run mark in the 50-overs format of the game.

My duty was to hold one end up and accelerate in the later half and I am happy that I was able to do so, the Delhi middle-order batsman.

The team has always backed me and I am trying to live up to their expectations, Kohli added.
