TURA, March 10 - The Garo Hills unit of the All Meghalaya 4th Teachers Association on Monday met the Meghalaya Leader of Opposition, Dr Mukul Sangma, at Songsak, the latters home constituency, to demand parity in salaries with other SSA teachers. The teachers body also sought his help in regularisation of their services.

The teachers stated in a memorandum that they have been receiving Rs 12,000 per month as salary, while other SSA teachers get Rs 20,493. According to them, they perform the same work and have the same qualifications and experience. On the issue of regularisation, the body said that currently there are 1,513 SSA UP 4th teachers in the State.

Some of these teachers have served for prolonged periods in schools and had the requisite qualifications at the time of their appointment. It is our request that you consider our plea for regularisation of our services on a human aspect, the teachers added. Correspondent
