By Correspondent

GOALPARA, March 11 - The Goalpara College Teachers Association (GCTA), in an emergent meeting held on March 10 has expressed grave concern over the vicious situation created by the allegation of question paper leaks in the Higher Secondary (Science) final examination.

The association, in a press release, stated that this unfortunate incident has badly shaken the confidence of the students and guardians over the education system. It also felt that such unhealthy practices in education may give some indications of a growing unholy nexus between a section of educational institutions and some corrupt officials of the Education department. The organization has demanded a prompt and unbiased investigation of the allegation, which is urgently necessary to restore the confidence of the people.

Meanwhile, the Satra Mukti Sangram Samiti (SMSS) filed an FIR at the Goalpara Police Station on Saturday against the school, Science Academy and also against the Secretary, Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC), Kamaljyoti Gogoi, the principal, Science Academy, Fojlul Karim Mondal, the Inspector of Schools and others for the allegedly leak of the higher secondary question papers (final year science stream) and also submitted as evidence sets of model question papers which were distributed to some of the students of the Science Academy along with the actual question papers of the AHSEC.

Moreover, in a separate incident, members of the AASU burnt the effigy of Education Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma while the SMSS burnt the effigy of the Secretary, AHSEC Kamaljyoti Gogoi in front of the Goalpara College field to air their resentment over the alleged leakage of the higher secondary science final year question papers.

Meanwhile, a section of conscious people have expressed their apprehension over the deteriorating standards of education caused by alleged leaking of the higher secondary question papers and also the sudden and meteoric rise of many private educational institutions in the heart of Goalpara.

Some also demanded the shifting of the examination centre of the Science Academy from PR Govt HS & MP School to the Goalpara College for allegedly breaking the evil nexus between the institution and other Education Department officials and for better monitoring. They also demanded a high-level and transparent government inquiry into the alleged question paper leakage incident.
